Mistreated dog found nearly twice healthy weight is put to sleep

An abandoned dog which was so overweight it could barely walk has had to be put down.

Collie Cross Gloria weighed 40 kilos, nearly twice the healthy weight, when she was found at a house near Brill.

The nine year old was taken to Stokenchurch Dog Rescue, where it had been hoped she could be nursed back to health and given a new home, but further examinations revealed several disorders and she had to be put to sleep.

Joyce Marriott, chairman of the dog rescue, said: “In the case of this poor dog, Gloria, cruelty comes in many guises and overfeeding a dog, without giving them any exercise, is just as dangerous and life threatening as is starving a dog.”

After her owner was evicted, Gloria was alone for three days before housing officials found her and fed her until she could be taken to a rescue centre.
