Joseph McLaughlin, the man whose body was found at the closed Swan and Castle pub in Quainton, died following a stab wound to the chest.
Police are not treating the 56 year old’s death as suspicious.
A spokeswoman said: “At no stage was it being treated as a murder investigation.
“Officers have been trying to understand the circumstances around the death.”
Police were called to the pub on June 12 after the 56 year old, of Hampton, Greater London, was found dead.
Mr McLaughlin was living at the pub as a caretaker for Greene King, who own the pub, while new owners are found.
A Greene King spokeswoman said: “We were shocked and saddened to learn of the news regarding a caretaker at one of our empty properties and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
An inquest into Mr McLaughlin’s death was opened and adjourned today (Friday).
