A double-decker bus has crashed into a pick-up truck being used by criminals on community service who were sprucing up a verge in the middle of a busy town centre road.

The Arriva bus smashed into the parked truck on Friarage Road, shortly before 10.30am, as it was emerging from Aylesbury bus station in Great Western Street.

But the group of about 10, who were dressed in orange high-vis jackets with the words ‘community payback’ written on them, had a lucky escape as they were all working near to the truck, which was propelled forward after the bus smashed into it.

Police are on the scene, trying to move the bus which has a broken windscreen.

The road is completely blocked and causing tailbacks.
