OH my god you guys! Legally Blonde is pulling in massive crowds at the Waterside.
The much anticipated Legally Blonde The Musical opened in Aylesbury on Tuesday – full of American cliches, glitzy costumes, catchy tunes and cute dogs.
The script is witty, the songs are catchy and the choreography was excellent.
The shows stars Les Dennis, Claire Sweeney and Ray Quinn and runs until Saturday. The award-winning stage production is based on the Hollywood film starring Reece Witherspoon.
Although you don’t need to know the story, which is based on a novel by Amanda Brown, the stage show assumes you have a basic understanding of the plot.
West End actress Faye Brookes impresses in the lead role – singing 16 songs in between her 19 costume changes.
She plays heroine Elle, who defends a woman who is charged with murder – while getting a place at Harvard to try to win back her boyfriend. Former TV game show host Les Dennis plays the show’s baddy, Professor Callahan.
Dennis’s portrayal of a ruthless lawyer worked well. Former X Factor contestant and Dancing On Ice winner Ray Quinn plays Elle’s love interest Warner. He did an exceptional job bringing to life a very thin character.
There was a great atmosphere inside the packed theatre, with lots of laughing from the audience who left in high spirits.
It was great to see that despite the London version of the show announcing it is due to close later this year, the news had no affect on ticket sales here in the Vale.
