IT was a dark, wet and windy return to work for most people today – but for one Aylesbury man the New Year started with a thud after a tree fell onto his car whilst he was shopping.
The incident happened at around 8.30am in the car park of Tesco Broadfields whilst 40 mph winds battered parts of the Vale.
Luckily no one was injured.
The unusual sight attracted a small crowd as commuters and staff gathered to see what had happened.
One witness, who asked not to be named, said he saw the tree ‘topple’ onto the car near the supermarket’s entrance.
The witness, who knows the owner of the car, had been shopping in the supermarket at the same time by coincidence.
He said: “The owner was quite shocked.
“I had to rush off to work soon afterwards, so I am not sure if the car was written off.”
A spokesman for Tesco confirmed the incident was being investigated and the shopper was being offered assistance by staff – adding that the supermarket would be unable to comment any further at this time.
Fire crews were not required to offer assistance.
