Folk legends Richard Thompson (a founder member of (Fairport Convention), Seth Lakeman and Lau are confirmed for the half century birthday of the famed independent Towersey Festival.

Thousands of people travel from all over the country for the five day festival, many camping on sites in the tiny village just eight miles from Aylesbury and two miles from Thame.

What started as an urgent need to raise money to fund renovations to the village hall with a one day event in 1965 has expanded into a major arts festival.

Music has always been at the heart of the festivites, but the modern day festival also embraces poetry, comedy, theatre, circus performers, visual arts, films, workshops, dances, storytelling and great food.

Festival director Joe Heap, whose grandfather was one fo the festival foudners, said: “We’re very proud to be celebrating Towersey Festival’s Golden Jubilee. “The annual event has grown considerably since those early days, but it remains one of the most welcoming and friendly festivals in the UK.”

Guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson has been a cornerstone of British music since the 1960s. His songs have been recorded by The Corrs, REM and Elvis Costello.

Over the last decade violinist and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman has released a string of critically acclaimed albums.

Three-piece Lau is a stunning live act using a subtle blend of traditional instuments with loops and effects pushing the folk genre in new exciting directions.
