A group of friends are risking their friendship and two old banger cars in the name of prostate cancer.

Ben Jones, 23, and eight friends are taking on the Ramshackle Rally which challenges teams to drive 1,500 miles from Britain to Valencia before taking part in La Tomatina, the famous tomato throwing festival.

Mr Jones, of Princes Risborough, said: “All my friends were up for it. None of us have any experience.

“Hopefully we can make some friends on the day and if there’s any problems we can then get towed 1,500 miles.

“The charity idea came about because a number of males in my family have had prostate cancer.”

The group who are from Risborough and Thame are all close friends but Mr Jones said undoubtedly there would be spats on the four day drive.

He added: “You are spending at least 10 hours very close to each other, you are going to have fights.”

In a bid to convince people of how seriously they are taking the challenge they have also introduced incentives to donate.

So with more than £500 donated it has been agreed Mr Jones will have to wear a mankini at one stage during the race.

Mr Jones added: “Some people might think this is a bit of a holiday so that’s why we’ve put incentives for people to donate.”
