The bowling green at Aylesbury’s Vale Park is set to be turned into five-a-side football pitches.

The district council has given the green light to the £160,000 project to replace the green with two floodlit synthetic turf pitches.

They will be available all year round for local clubs, groups or teams to book and will be run by Everyone Active.

Work at the site is expected to start in September and will take up to 10 weeks.

The council says that all funds for the project were secured through deals struck under planning approval conditions for housing developments in Aylesbury.

Councillor Howard Mordue, cabinet member for leisure, said: “Our research shows that the bowls green has a low level of use and therefore we have had to consider other options to provide better use of the space.

“The new pitches will offer year-round opportunities for both adults and young people to take part in sport. “Not only will the facility help to increase participation in football and outdoor sport, it will aid the development of grassroots football in local clubs.”
