A former Thame town councillor has released a book of her own and colleagues’ experiences at renowned mental health hospital, The Priory.
Dee Bixley, 60, launched Inside The Priory, after she spent more than 15 years working at the Roehampton hospital as a personal assistant to the medical director.
She interviewed colleagues and patients to highlight their experiences of the hospital, which is known for caring for celebrities such as Kate Moss and Johnny Depp.
Mrs Bixley said: “It went really well. About 70 people came along to the launch.
“It’s been a huge excitement for me. It was a privilege to work there.
“The Priory is somewhere people have a curiosity about. But it’s mostly ordinary people.
“You see people who are very vulnerable and then you see them go on this marvellous miracle of them getting better.”
Mrs Bixley said she felt so compelled by her experiences at the clinic that she had to write the book.
She added: “BBC Radio Oxford interviewed me on the same day of the launch and they seemed to find it very interesting. I hope there will be some interest in it.”
Already the book has received a five star review on Amazon from one user, Marjorie.
She wrote: “Inside The Priory is an excellent read and I happily give it a top star rating.
“Some funny episodes and also a poignant story, by the author, is interwoven through the book.”
The book is on sale for £9.99 at Book House in Thame and in Summertown, Oxford. Proceeds from Mrs Bixley’s book sales will go to the Yellow Heart Trust.
The trust offers financial support for people who cannot afford ongoing help for dealing with a mental illness.
