Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been shortlisted for this year’s ‘brigade of the year’ award at the Fire Fighters Charity spirit of fire awards.
The nomination is in recognition of the brigade’s money-raising efforts for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Oxfordshire firefighters generated £111,000 in donations in 2010/11 for the charity from a range of different fundraising initiatives, including car washes and fun runs.
The charity is this country’s leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
It is available for all members of the fire service community during their times of need.
Judith Heathcoat, cabinet member for safer and stronger communities at Oxfordshire County Council, said: “Our Fire and Rescue Service does an excellent job and I would like to pass on my congratulations to all involved in the work that has led to this prestigious nomination.”
Dave Etheridge, chief fire officer, said: “This nomination is an impressive accolade which recognises the unwavering efforts of members of our brigade in showing support and raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity.
“We have raised more than £1 million for the charity and other good causes over the past decade and I hope that everybody is as proud as I am about this nomination as it truly is the result of a real team effort.”
The spirit of fire awards take place on Friday November 4.
