KETTLE bells may not be the first thing people think of when it comes to New York, but the quirky new sport is the reason why two former Lord Williams’s pupils are visiting the Big Apple.
Helen and Matthew Walker, along with his wife Kristie are all preparing to compete in the World Championships next month in the hope of building its fanbase and making it an Olympic sport.
Matthew, who will be representing England, is best placed to claim a medal after coming second in the event last year. But his sister Helen and wife Kristie are hoping to put in a strong showing and complete the 10 minutes needed to post a competitive score.
Helen said: “This is my first year competing so I am hoping to do well. I have not been to this sort of event before so I’m not sure of what to expect so I am not nervous at the moment.”
The athletes get scored on the amount of repetitions they can fit into the 10 minutes.
