Good neighbours are becoming good friends thanks to a successful new scheme in Thame.
The Good Neighbour Scheme started in March, and sees a team of volunteers help those im the community who need help or support with everyday tasks and activities.
The volunteers help with occasional transport, befriending, doing shopping, collecting prescriptions and library books and assisting with pets.
One of the scheme’s beneficiaries, Betty (we have been asked not to use her surname as she is a vulnerable person) found out about the service through a friend and got in touch with Jane Webster, who co-ordinates the service for Thame Town Council.
She was then matched up to a volunteer, who lives just around the corner and was more than happy to help.
Betty is one of many people that the Thame Good Neighbour Scheme has helped so far.
If you would like a helping hand from time to time from one of the volunteers phone 0800 531 6286.
If you think you could spare a few hours a month to help people like Betty, you can find out how to sign up by visiting www.thamegns.org.
