A THAME duo are getting ready to embark on the gruelling 26.2 mile London Marathon to raise money for charity.
Kayleigh Stewart and Melanie Wilkins have both opted to take part in the annual run and are supporting charities close to their hearts. Melanie is running for Kids Kidney Research to repay the charity for the help it has given to her cousin who suffered a kidney failure.
She is hoping that through doing events like this she can help raise awareness of a charity that is not particularly well known.
Her partner in pain Kayleigh is running for Barnardo’s so that she can help ‘the children who need it’.
She said: “I believe that every child deserves the best start in life and the chance to fulfil their potential no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through and that is why I am running the marathon.”
It will be the first time she has run a marathon and is being helped along by Melanie who completed it last year.
The pair are at the peak of their training and are currently running five times a week.
This is normally at 5am before work and can be for as long as 18 miles.
But the knowledge they are helping good causes is the one thing that is keeping them both going through the tough mornings.
Kayleigh said: “We are doing a lot of hard miles but we get up in the morning because we are each doing it for such a good course.”
The duo have set a target of raising £1,600 each and are asking the people of Thame public for their support. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/melanie-wilkins0 or www.justgiving.com/KayleighAnneStewart
