Downton Abbey’s cook Mrs Patmore, actress Lesley Nicol, is opening a free dog show in Waddesdon on Saturday.

Celebrity vet Joe Inglis, who regularly appears on breakfast television, will also be at the event.

First etablished last year by Jez Rose, a canine behaviour specialist who was raised in the village, Waddesdon Woof attracted more than 500 pooches and their owners.

They enjoyed a fun day out of competitions, demonstrations and shopping.

This year, organisers are expecting an even greater turn out.

Kate Collier, customer relations manager for Jez, said: “You put in such a lot of effort and never really know how well it will go when you plan something new, and it was so rewarding to have so many people attending and enjoying the show last year. So we hope this year it will be even better still.”

Actress Lesley Nicol is a great dog lover and will no doubt enjoy the show, which starts at 11am and goes on to 4pm.

Competitions include child’s best friend, golden oldie, best rescue and best trick. Demonstrations include talks about behaviour problems and learning how to talk to your dog.

The show takes place on the recreation ground next to Waddesdon Church of England School.

Owners are asked to keep their dogs on a lead at all times, and to pick up any mess. All dogs who attend the show much be people and dog-friendly.

There will be a doggy chill-out zone available for pooches, plus lots of water bowls. For more details
