Flood victims will not have to pay council tax for a year, the district council has said.

A 50% reduction is normally applied to any property damaged by flooding but Aylesbury Vale District Council has confirmed it is offering an additional 50% reduction to provide some solace for families and businesses affected by floods in the last two months.

Homeowners or businesses who had to move out of buildings are eligible to apply for the council tax exemption of up to a year or until they return to the property.

Applications will be approved after an inspection.

District council leader Neil Blake said: “It is a difficult time for any residents or businesses whose property has been damaged by the recent flooding.

“By providing council tax and business rate exemptions we can offer some help to those affected.”
