A high-flying city IT consultant has launched a boutique online children’s store from her home in the Vale.

While on maternity leave with her second son, Sotiria Spantidea started working on an idea for the store.

Three years later Butterfly Occasions was launched, offering high quality toys, furniture and even wallpaper.

Sotiria still works as a fulltime IT consultant in London, but she spends her travelling time on the train working on her boutique, and employs a lady to update the website and post out packages.

From her home in Dunsmore where she lives with husband Colville Wood and their two sons Colville, four, and Gabrielle, two, Sotiria said: “It is not big enough to support itself at the moment, but I hope to grow it to be my fulltime job.”

Sotiria, who is from Greece, has always had an eye for detail and enjoys research.

Since having her sons she has spent a lot of time on the internet looking for quality and educational items for them.

She said: “I decided to create a space online to bring all these nice things together.”

She attends exhibitions and trade shows, meets suppliers and sees all the products she sells.

She stocks some of the smaller items at home, whilst the furniture tends to be delivered direct to customers or warehouses from the supplier.

The website was launched just prior to Christmas and almost immediately achieved several orders a day.

Promoted through Google ads and PR, now gets hundreds of hits a day.
