Libraries to offer free downloads

BOOKWORMS can now escape to another world at home or on their travels with free eBook downloads straight to their PC, mobile phone or MP3 player.

The new service for Buckinghamshire library members gives people the option to choose from popular best sellers and non-fiction including biography, travel, humour, classical literature, history, romance, mystery and thriller.

Library members can download up to three eBooks, and have them for up to three weeks, after which they will just disappear from the device to which they have been downloaded. There are no overdue charges as eBooks automatically expire at the end of the loan period.

They can also be returned early and people can borrow the same books again, if no one else has reserved them.

Martin Phillips, cabinet member for community engagement said: “We are always looking for ways to meet the changing needs and expectations of our users. These days people are always downloading something to listen to at home, or on the move.”
