Youth side lose out in close-fought first game

In their first competitive match Thame’s Under 18s went out of the FA Cup to local rivals Oxford City but only after a tremendous battling performance.

Against a side who train every day at the club’s academy, United’s youngsters came under early pressure and were indebted to keeper Jack Hopwood for some outstanding saves in the early exchanges.

With influential skipper Ed Goggs adding experience United weathered the storm and grew into the game.

However two set pieces eventually gave City the win.

First a corner was smashed against the bar and the rebound bundled home then a harsh penalty gave City a 2-0 win.

A first loss but no shame in defeat and a great game for the spectators to enjoy.
