Vale of Aylesbury’s Andy Rolt Rolt has been crowned the mens over 45 Champion of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the 3,000m Steeplechase, setting a new club record in the process.

Clocking 10mins 48.21secs at Derby, his win also meant he fellow mens veteran Alan Roberts’ previous mark by 3mins and 37secs.

The time put him at number one for 2012 on the UK Power of 10 rankings. Meanwhile, Roberts competed in the fourth European Masters Mountain Running Championships in Bludenz, Austria where 16 nations (a new record) were represented. The VoA stalwart finished 32nd in 1hr 4mins and 52.1secs in the over 45 race – just one of two Brits that finished in his category.

At least the runners had the option of a Cable car down from the finish and 0.4km jog back to the start at the end. Vale of Aylesbury now have two Veterans over 45 with number one UK Power of 10 rankings.
