THAME Town missed a good opportunity on Saturday to secure their first win of the season against Farnham Royal in the HCPCL Division 1 West.
Thame inserted Farnham on a flat surface but good opening bowling from Lachlan and Rooney reduced the visitors to 17 for 3. However, former Oxford MCCU batsman Duncan Bradshaw’s hit a classy century, together with a sensible knock of 66 from Paul Davis helped Farnham reach 226 for 7 declared off 58 overs.
In reply Thame started brightly and were starting to make the declaration look a mistake. Good starts From Pratik Patel (33) James Nielsen (50) and Mike Higgs (32) helped Thame reach 113 for 2 off 27 overs.
The home side seemed in control but some impatient batting led to regular loss of wickets and disrupted Thame’s rhythm. With three overs to go Thame needed 18 to win with Captain Lachlan and Jaydeep Bhatti at the crease. However, some poor running led to two run outs, and Lachlan and Rooney shut up shop to claim the draw.
Thame Seconds won away at Didcot, with both Richard Carr and Carl Sellwood scoring 50s in their 206 for 9. Ian McStay and Gary porter then claimed four wickets each to dismiss Didcot for 181.
The Town’s Thirds had an easy victory at Kingston Bagpuize, dismissing the home side for 51.
