Mandeville School will welcome West Ham and England legend Sir Trevor Brooking to open their new artificial grass pitch on Monday.
The new all weather, £550,000 pitch is the culmination of six years of planning by a dedicated team at the school who believe sport plays a pivotal role in inspiring and developing young people.
Funds have been raised via land sale and local authority capital funding.
As the host venue for the school games organiser, pupils from the 30 primary schools and six secondary schools in the Mandeville School Sports Partnership will have the opportunity to play competitive sports on the new pitch.
For pupils of the Football Academy and the newly formed Sports Academy at Mandeville, the new pitch will enable them to improve their learning with a first class teaching facility to develop their leadership, communication and organisational skills and gain their qualifications.
Headteacher Peter Patchett said he feels the opening of the new pitch is a fantastic way to commemorate the Olympics and such an inspirational sporting year and will help continue the school’s sporting legacy.
