Six goals see Thame back up and running in comfortable win
THAME men’s first team kicked-off 2012 with a bang as they comfortably beat Amersham and Chalfont 6-0 away.
After a couple of weeks off for the winter break Thame were slightly rusty and took a long time to started but once the deadlock was broken the result was never in question.
Amersham have struggled this season and facing top-of-the-table Thame they started out in a very defensive formation.
Packing their area and crowding the midfield the home side made it difficult for their opponents to break them down.
Thame took their time and kept the ball in the middle of the park with Chris Humphrey key to keeping the ball moving.
The visitors kept their patience and continued to pass the ball around as they attempted to lure the defensive home side out of their half.
Thame had several chances to take the lead including a number of wasted short corners. Matt Snugs was ruthless in the tackle and Alex Merrick and Clifford Brown were pressurising the defence at every opportunity.
Will Sawrey-Cookson was causing havoc in the midfield as he consistently combined with Gareth Birkett and Humphrey as Thame started to go through the gears.
The deadlock was broken when Merrick finished neatly just before half-time. After the break the sluice gates opened as Thame’s domination of possession started to tire their opponents. Brown struck twice before right-back Tim Trailor snuck infront of the keeper to skilfully finish for his first goal of the season.
Man of the match Jamie Alexander scored two in the final moments to put a real gloss on the scoreline.
Thame next face Witney at home.
