Tony Joyce praised the returning Shane Wood as his Aylesbury United side saw off 10-man Beaconsfield SYCOB 2-0 at Bell Close.
Stacey Field opened the scoring on the stroke of half time before Zack Reynolds doubled the Ducks’ advantage on 50 minutes.
Beaconsfield were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages when Craig Carby was shown a second yellow for dissent, but the victory had been secured.
The Ducks boss was pleased with the team’s all round performance, having only played twice in six weeks, but singled out Wood after his lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Joyce said: “I thought he had a particularly good game at centre-back. Especially after four months out.
“We know we can always score but the main focus was not to concede and we didn’t.”
The Ducks are in action again tomorrow, due to the number of recent postponements, as they travel to Chesham United for their Berks & Bucks Senior Cup semi-final (7.45pm KO).
Joyce said: “It’s not ideal but we’re actually quite lucky as we didn’t have to use three players (against Beaconsfield).
“So five or six should be fresh and then it’s who’s fittest and I think it will be the younger lads!”
