DINTON’S season finally got underway at the weekend, after weeks of rain, although the club’s first and second XI games both called off.
But there was better news on Sunday, when the side opened its campaign in the National Village compettion against Winchmore Hill.
Dinton batted first, and 132 runs from Mike Sutliff and Ryan Biggs (50) before the first wicket set the platform.
With Amin contributing another 50, and Sutliff amassing an awesome 163, Dinton’s total in 40 overs was 330 for six.
Dogged resistance from Winchmore Hill, with Pearce top scoring with 53, saw them end on 189 for eight.
A resounding victory for Dinton, as they progress to the next round, which will be away on Sunday, May 20.
Dinton’s successful bowlers were Amin (2-35), Biggs (2-35) and young Matthew Smith, who got 3 for 5 from three overs.
The Third XI did manage to play away at Tiddington on Saturday.
On a difficult track, batting first, Dinton were indebted to young Olly Chaplin with an impressive 45 in their all out total of 96.
A small total, but with Neil Burrows (2-10), Warren Thornton (3-9) and Alan Massey (4-10) all exploting the conditions, Tiddington were skittled for 61 in a resounding victory.
The First XI’s fixture with Skipton in the Home Countys League fell victim to the weather, as did the Seconds’ home clash on Saturday.
