Ellen White hailed an ‘amazing team performance’ after England were crowned Cyrpus Cup champs and she picked up the golden boot on Wednesday night.

A 1-0 victory over Olympic bronze medallists Canada in the final gave the Lionesses the trophy while White also picked up some silverware of her own with the golden boot award for her three goals in the mini tournament.

Rachel Yankey scored the winning goal with a neat half volley in the 70th minute but the Three Lions could have won by a greater margin, White having a number of chances saved throughout.

It was sweet revenge for former Grange School pupil White who was part of the Team GB team that was knocked out of London 2012 their Candian counterparts.

England, winners of the competition in 2009, reached the final by beating Italy and New Zealand in the group stage, either side of a 4-4 draw with Scotland, during which time White notched three goals.

Speaking after the victory, White said: “I’m absolutely buzzing!

“We are Cyprus Cup champs! So proud of my teammates, it was an amazing team performance.”
