Mark Kleanthous put his 30 years of triathlon experience to good use on Sunday when he competed at the National Middle Distance Championships.

It was the Wing man’s 30th season in triathlon and he celebrated in style with some fantastic times.

The middle distance is half the Ironman and involves a 1,900m lake swim, 56 mile cycle and 13.1 mile half marathon.

Mark finished 118th overall and ninth 50-54 year old last year and was hoping to improve his position in both categories.

This year Mark’s times were 32mins 50secs for the swim. The time between swim and starting the bike known as T1 was 1min 33secs then for the 56-mile bike he did 2hrs 43mins 54secs.

Changing from bike to run known as T2 was 1min 19secs and he then ran the half marathon in 25 degree heat in 1hr 35mins 53secs.

Marks’ overall position this year was a brilliant 36th and third in the country in the male veteran 50-54 age group

The event winner was Stephen Harrison, who clocked a total time of 4hrs 07mins and 54secs.
