ON the day that so many professionals struggled with the weather at the Open Championships, Gemma Clements conquered the conditions to be named Studley Wood Golf Club Ladies Champion for the second year running.
The Oakley 17-year-old had been at St George’s watching her idols all week and it was a relief to her that they had to battle with the same conditions.
Clements said: “After being at the Open in Sandwich from Monday to Friday, I know that the conditions we had at Studley were awful but definitely not as bad as the wind that the players were receiving at the Open.
“But, it was nice to know that other people were playing golf and struggling in the torrential rain as well and that it wasn’t just me.”
Clements plays off a handicap of five.
