Katy Dunne crashed out of Junior Wimbledon at the first hurdle at the weekend and admitted she was simply too nervous to perform.
Halton ace Dunne is the world number nine but lost 6-2, 6-2 to Romanian Ioana Ducu to seal an early exit after being installed as the seventh seed for the junior competition.
And speaking straight after the match, the 18-year-old starlet revealed she was hugely frustrated with herself.
“I lost unfortunately because I just couldn’t control my nerves,” she said.
“I piled far too much pressure on myself.
“At the moment I’m just extremely disappointed.”
The result was stark contrast to last weekend when Dunne was in action in the senior competition at SW19.
There she showed why she has risen to ninth in the Junior World Rankings with a stirring performance against Italian Nastassja Burnett – a player 811 places her superior.
