Past captains of Weston Turville Golf Club gather ahead of the Ballantyne Trophy

The annual Ballantyne Trophy brings together past captains of Weston Turville Golf Club and this year 16 former skippers got together in what turned out to be a very competitive event.

The earliest captain to attend this year was the Vic Batista who held office in 1992 and now plays at Berkhamstead Golf Club.

Each captain was paired with two club members in a stableford competition, with the captain’s score and one other to count at each hole.

Dave Barnett triumphed with 83 points playing with Phil Thomas and Ian Stone, and David Bentham came a close second with 82pts playing with Ian Durham and Mark Wesley.

Presenting the prizes were Mary Ballantyne and her daughter Tracy Dodd.

Turville also held their annual seniors event sponsored this year by Johnsons Honda. Although a storm disrupted play for around 10 minutes the day once again was sunny and hot.

Ken Godfrey put on a sparkling performance winning with a score of 41pts over Malcolm Campbell (39). In form Barnett (42) won the club event over Eddie McCarthy (41).
