Make getting back into netball your new year’s resolution.
That’s the message from England Netball as they try to encourage girls and women into the sport with special sessions in Aylesbury.
Back to Netball sessions are running at Aston Clinton Tennis Park and Wingrave Park this month and are ideal for ladies who have not taken to the court for a few years.
Running across England since 2010, nearly 40,000 women have taken part in the sessions.
Emma Toft, netball development officer, said: “Back to Netball provides a gentle re-introduction to the sport for ladies of all ages and abilities. Sessions are coach-led and cover the basics from chest passes to shooting.
“Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had, losing a few pounds or making new friends, these sessions have something for everyone.
“Re-introducing the sport to ladies who perhaps haven’t played since school is very rewarding.
“Many have forgotten how much they loved playing, but I am happy to remind them! It’s great for getting fit, having fun and making friends.” Helen Bell started playing netball through her local Back to Netball session last January.
And she said it had helped ‘change her life’.
“I have never played netball before and I was a bit anxious about attending my first session as I wasn’t really sure of what to expect,” she said.
“I’m so glad I went along, as I met some great people and I really enjoyed learning about how to play netball, whilst getting fit at the same time.
“I’ve also been to two Back to Netball tournaments, which I never thought I would have the guts to do but I did it. I feel quite proud of myself.
“It has given me a real boost in confidence and having something to look forward to each week. It is a challenging and fun game, great for fitness and I would seriously recommend this activity to anyone.”
