Aylesbury Rugby Club has cleaned up after battling it out against 800 teams to scoop the ‘ultimate sporting prize’ from home appliance brand, AEG.
The Ducks won the AEG Grassroots campaign, after collecting more votes on Facebook than any other team.
And they will now get an all-expenses-paid ‘Best Seats in House’ event, hosted at Ostler’s Field.
The Ay’s will get to invite 100 guests to watch a live international game, commentated in person by two rugby legends, one of which could be World Cup winner Will Greenwood. The event, which is due to take place in spring, will include refreshments and a question and answer session with the professionals.
Clive Woodfall, Aylesbury chairman, said: “It’s great to see a quality company like AEG supporting Grassroots clubs in this way.
“We are thrilled to be part of it. It has given the club a real boost.”
England rugby star and commentator Greenwood said: “We have had a fantastic response to the campaign this year.
“A huge congratulations to Aylesbury, I’m sure they will get a lots of tips and insights out of the event.”
Helen Haider, marketing manager at AEG, said: “We’re really excited for Aylesbury, which has competed against some of the country’s most passionate grassroots clubs to rally the support of their local community and win this legendary prize.
“Our Grassroots campaign is dedicated to ensuring that local teams have access to the best laundry equipment and kits, enabling clubs to spend the money they save on other essentials like training and maintenance.”
Since launching the campaign in 2011, AEG has supported thousands of rugby and cricket teams from across the UK with kit and laundry packages.
