Hazells had an excellent week, achieving successes in both club friendly and competition matches.

Monday saw Roger Crick stride to a convincing 17-4 shot win over Alan Atkinson from Princes Risborough in the EBA Two wood competition.

The ladies were successful in their first match away to Cheddington.

In fine weather they won all three rinks with a total of 37-50 shots, the highest winning rink going to Kate Griffiths, Sheila Lawlor and Anne Farmer (14-20). Thursday was Hazells’ 90th Anniversary Mens match against Bucks Bowls Executives.

Despite rain, hail, wind and sunshine Hazells performed splendidly winning all 6 rinks by 59 shots (151-92), Colin Crosby, Bruce Patterson, Malcolm Hobson and Brian Abigail being the highest winning rink (32-14).

On Saturday afternoon the club travelled to Leighton Buzzard for a friendly triples match. Bathed in sunshine (for a change) Hazells played well to win overall by 14 shots (86-100). The highest winning rink went to Nina Griffiths, Dave Edwards and Nick Griffiths (9-29).

Sunday was another busy day for the club. The Mens Top Club match was played at Cheddington.

With victories in the singles (Roger Crick 21-16), pairs (Brian Abigail and Ian Brown 23-18) and triples (Steve McNeill, Fred Baldwin and John Smith 16-11) they now play Princes Risborough in the next round. In the Champion of Champions Competition, Janet Moores played Dot Simmons from Aylesbury Town.

With scores level at 12 and 24 ends it was the 26th which finally gave victory to Janet by 21-20 shots. Finally Hazells played host to Dunstable Bowls Club.

Being in good form Sue Smith, Eddie Justice and Tom Holland’s highest winning rink (31-5) was part of the overall 123-88 shot victory.

Congratulations to Freya Spokes who has been selected for the Women’s Junior International Development Team playing in the BIWBC Junior Internationals on 20th and 21st July at Royal Leamington Spa.
