Aylesbury Rugby Club has made it over the first hurdle after submitting an exciting bid to become a team base to host one of the countries competing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The club’s bid has already through to the second stage after members of Team RWC 2015 visited its Weston Turville base to assess the brand new £500,000 facilities at Ostler’s Field and those of the Ducks’ partners Hartwell House (team hotel), Stoke Mandeville Stadium and Aylesbury Grammar School.

A spokesman for the Magenta and Blacks, who start their season on September 14 against Thatcham, said of the recent visit: “The club looked tip top in the glorious sunshine as did the venues of our partners, we couldn’t have picked a better day.

“A lot of this is as a result of the sheer hard work of lots of people including those who helped on our NatWest Rugby Force volunteers weekend. “Thanks goes to Clive Woodfall and others for ensuring that the clubhouse and grounds were immaculate on the day.

“The visit seemed to go well, and whilst there is still a long way to go, it’s fingers crossed that we get through to the next stage.”
