Following hot on the heels of their recent fine win against Chiltern Forest, Ivinghoe Golf Club duo Chris James and Russell Shardlow have now progressed in the prestigious Daily Mail’s National Foursomes event, the largest-entry amateur golf competition in the world.
Ivinghoe made it through to the next round after winning a local derby match against neighbours Stocks.
Russell and Chris, playing off handicaps of seven and 12 respectively, came out on top, 5 and 4, against John Cooper, playing off three, and partner Chris Medley, off 12.
Russell said: “It (5 and 4)might sound like something of a comfortable win but both John and Chris played some really cracking golf between them and, on at least half a dozen holes out there, things could have gone either way.
“If the odd little rub of the green had only gone their way instead of ours, then the match could have got very tense indeed!
“As it happens, my partner was on top of his game throughout which, obviously, helped me relax and find my own rhythm.”
“But today just went our way!
“We can’t wait for the draw for the next round now!”
