At Weston Turville Golf Club the incoming Lady Captain had two attempts to start her year as Lady Captain.
With more than 80 lady members Sheelagh Culverhouse took to the tee in front of the Wednesday Ladies, and in cold but dry conditions managed to drive a ball somewhere towards the middle of the first fairway.
On Saturday she had to do it all again this time in the presence of the working ladies who can only play at the weekend. Having already had a lot of practice, this time her drive was sweetly struck and appreciated by all those present.
This year Sheelagh’s charity will be the Seve Ballesteros Foundation which funds vital brain cancer research. At both drive-ins Sheelagh raised more than £300. The new skipper’s first fixture was a match against Ellesborough Ladies in the Mail on Sunday Classic. Ellesborough brought an army of supporters, however Turville were too strong on the day and won convincingly by three and a half matches to one and a half.
