Chinnor RFC have slipped into the National Two South relegation zone with just one game remaining following a 43-12 defeat at Bishop’s Stortford.
With fellow strugglers Launceston beating London Irish Wild Geese, this defeat leaves Chinnor in the bottom three ahead of their final game of the season this Saturday when they host bottom of the table Exmouth.
Chinnor began brightly against Stortford, with Matt Goode converting his own try to put them into an early 7-0 lead, but the hosts responded through Tom Banks and George Cullen to turn the match around.
Goode hit back with his second try, but Stortford raced away with victory in a dominant second half display with Sam Winter (2), Chris Adams and Nick Hankins crossing the whitewash to rack up a comfortable victory.
With relegation rivals London Irish Wild Geese at Ampthill, Launceston facing Shelford and Dings away at Southend this weekend, a bonus-point win at home to Exmouth tomorrow should be enough to secure survival.
