Summer continued at Weston Turville Golf Club as 15 ladies set out for the only 36 hole competition in the calendar, a strokeplay event for the Bailie Crystal.

This would be a matter of not only who could play the best golf, but also who would have both the physical and mental stamina to keep going until the last hole.

After 18 holes, last year’s winner Ann Tomkins started with a stunning nett 66, three shots clear of Pauline Waite and Fran Woodbridge who were the only players to break 70.

Usually as fatigue hits in the afternoon scores are higher than the morning round, however six players managed nett sub 60 rounds, and it was Pauline Waite who won with two magnificent rounds of nett 69 and 67 scoring 136. Jean Garrett continued her superb season finishing in second place with a nett 137, with low handicapper Debbie Retallick coming third with a nett 139.

The golf course was in magnificent condition, with the greens running smoothly and with little wind and sunny weather it more than contributed to the number of low scores although the ladies would prefer that it was their great play rather than the conditions for the amazing golf on show.

Following supper at the club, most of the ladies were happy to go home for a hot bath and a long sleep.
