Chinnor were left cursing their poor discipline after Redruth ruthlessly picked them apart 44-14 in Cornwall.

Jason Bowers’ side clung on but the sin binning of Ed Vickers proved pivotal as with the score at 24-14 Redruth ran over three tries in 12 minutes.

Bowers said: “They are a good side but the score slightly flattered them in the end. We just had a bad day at the office. It probably gives us an insight into what it’s like to be in this league.”

Bowers’ men started brightly but within 14 minutes found themselves two tries down.

However, after good work at a rolling maul Joe Pickett bundled over and the subsequent conversion helped Chinnor enter the break 17-7 down.

Bowers said it was vital his side were more clinical and it was clear to see what he meant as despite a positive spell it was Redruth who touched down first in the second half.

Chinnor replied through Pip Seymour to bring themselves within 10 points again but the sin binning of Vickers cost them dear.

Frank Jones saw red late on and Redruth happily crossed the whitewash twice more.

Bowers added: “At times we need to be a little bit more street wise but that will come as we progress in this league. If you make a mistake you are behind your posts before you know what’s going on.”

Chinnor welcome to Hartpury College to Kingsley Road on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).
