Two U13 athletes from Vale of Aylesbury Athletics Club are making a name for themselves in their chosen disciplines with some record breaking performances.
The pair stood side by side on the podium recently at the Sandra Luke Memorial Competition in Oxford, an annual competition is for juniors aged 7-14 with each athlete taking part in 3 or 5 events depending on their age.
The best 5 star girl and boy are awarded the Sandra Luke and Georgina French Trophies.
Lee Richards and Alfred Mawdsley performed brilliantly. Lee won all three of his events, with a new PB in the 200m of 27.64s; his other events were the 100m and long jump. Alfred was second in the 800m, but it was his performances in his signature events which gave him first place overall.
In the shot Alfred threw an astonishing 12.13m – twice the length of the athlete in second place. It was a new PB and puts him second in the UK this season for his age at the shot.
His main event is discus and he also achieved a new PB in that event with a throw of 36.93m, more than 17m further than second place. That throw put Alfred first in the UK rankings this year!
