THAME racing driver Jonny Kane was left cursing his team’s luck as an unfortunate crash early on prevented him from finishing on the podium at Silverstone.

Jonny started in pole position in his Strakka Racing Honda but an avoidable collision in lap 16 meant he lost too much time and was only able to finish in eighth.

The result means it will take an exceptional performance at the last race of the season for the Silverstone-based Strakka team to challenge for the title.

Jonny said: “It’s a very frustrating day and unfortunately a split second has changed the entire race for us.

“The most annoying thing for me is that the Corvette that I had contact with blocked me two corners before, so he knew that I was there and trying to overtake.

The boys did an amazing job to get the car out as quickly as they did and we ran as quickly as we could, but unfortunately nobody else had any problems. It’s been a lot of hard work from everybody and a few points which is some consolation
