Ellen White is hoping to help England’s women retain the Cyprus Cup they won last year when they take on Italy this afternoon (Wednesday).

Striker White, who moved from Arsenal to Notts County ahead of the 2013/14 season, tweeted she was ‘excited for the Cyprus Cup’ before jetting out last Friday.

The former Grange School pupil geared up for the opening game against Italy in Nicosia at 3.30pm today with a team-bonding fancy dress party at the weekend.

The Fairford Leys woman, 24, dressed up as Sandy from Grease for the event and she will be hoping lightning can strike twice as the Lionesses go in search of back-to-back tournament victories.

England won this competition last season and after Italy take on Finland on Friday and Canada on Monday (March 10).

It will be White’s new head coach Mark Sampson’s first opportunity to assess his squad in a tournament environment.

His first home game in charge is a World Cup qualifier against Montenegro at Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium on Saturday April 5.
