United eager to get back to action after frustrating break

Thame United are ready to get going again

Thame United’s manager has said their enforced break through postponements has proved frustrating ahead of this Saturday’s game against high flyers Slimbridge in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

Mark West’s side have not taken to the field since their 1-0 win over Ardley United in the OFA Senior Cup on December 18.

He said: “We have had a nice rest but it had been quite frustrating. We had a decent squad for the last couple games but it’s one of those things.”

While United have not seen much action West did add they were already ahead of some rivals in games played so it will not damage the club greatly.

However, he did lament the fact that several university students were back at the club over Christmas and he was unable to field any of them as both games were called off.

United were due to play Wantage Town, who are also going well in the league, on Boxing Day and West said it is unlikely he will have such a strong squad to pick from when the game is finally played.

Despite the frustration of recent weeks the boss preferred to focus on a tricky match against second placed Slimbridge (kick-off 3pm).

He said: “They are a tough team. They are always up near the top.

“If we can play the way we have done we will be doing well to come away with something.

“We will still have a decent squad for the game.”

The manager agreed that the team who comes out on top on Saturday will be the one who has not enjoyed the festive season too much.

In preparation ahead of the game West added: “There will be a little bit of hard work. We will train quite hard.

“There may be a bit of extra running for some.”

With a new year under way and United still sitting pretty in sixth, albeit with a few games in hand, West said he would be delighted if they could finish in the top half after what has been a ‘tough season’.
