Hale Leys United kept pace with their title rivals Mursley after drawing a top of the table clash 1-1 at the weekend.

Leys were without captain Daniel Parsons and Marcus Hussey but looked strong with the cover manager Paul Alleyne has recruited.

Tom Brindley spurned two glorious chances before the visitors struck the first blow and went ahead through Wayne Bell just before half-time.

Some stern words from Alleyne at half-time sparked the shopping centre side back into life, though, with Brindley making amends for his earlier profligacy to fire home with the second half just six minutes old.

Leys continued to press seeing chance after chance go begging as Mursley held out for a draw, which was not too disheartening for Alleyne.

He said: “The boys played better today and I’m happy with the energy levels. We just need to work harder on our finishing.”

Leys entertain current Division Two champions Kent Athletic on Saturday at Fairford Leys (3pm) for another top of the table clash.
