Thame United bounced back to winning ways with a shock 2-1 win at North Leigh in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
Goals from Matt Hall and Niall Hodgkins gave Thame the victory which was made all the more sweeter after they were thrashed 6-0 by the same opposition in the FA Cup earlier in the season.
Manager Mark West said: “It was a magnificent performance. It was not one we expected.
“It was definitely a backs against the wall job and we scored two good goals on the counter-attack.”
The result went some way to appeasing West who just three days previously saw his troops lose 2-1 to Ardley United in a controversial circumstances.
United took an early lead against the title challengers in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division match through Hall.
Mitchell Meredith missed from the spot for Thame before Ardley equalised. But, the referee took centre stage when he bizarrely awarded a penalty, which was duly converted, and sent off Phil Pykett.
West added: “We did really well. Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve.”
Thame travel to Shrivenham on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
