Hale Leys United retained their early lead at the top of the Spartan South Midlands Division 2 with a narrow 1-0 win over Mursley United.

In a tight affair Leys took a fortuitous lead after great link up play and pressure resulted in a Mursley defender rashly clearing into his own net.

Mursley had the better of the play initially but were unable to carve out any chances as Leys toiled to get a foothold in the game.

They upped the pressure though and after forcing two fine saves from the Mursley keeper. Eventually their pressure would tell with an unfortunate own goal their reward.

The game continued to be patch from then on with both sides having a stab at goal and Leys new signing Riccardo Whittle went closest as his 20 yard effort whistled past the post.

But one goal was all that was required as the shopping centre side held out.

Leys host 61FC on Saturday (3pm kick off).
