Hale Leys United kicked off their season on Saturday with a thumping 4-0 win over Old Bradwell United on Saturday.
And the new-look shopping centre side got straight down to business when Jason Castello opened the scoring with a well placed header from a Mark Tattum corner just 16 minutes in. Tom Brindley was a persistent threat for the Bradwell defence and he won and scored a penalty to put FC 2-0 up going in at half-time.
As the second half started Leys looked unsettled and allowed Bradwell back into the game in spells, but it took another Hale Leys new boy to settle the nerves as Alex Woodfine opened his goal account for the season scoring in the 68th and 81st minute to put his team mates at ease.
There were also debuts for Steven Garbutt, Liam Williams and Craig Woolhead as Leys got off to en emphatic start under new manager Paul Alleyne, who was delighted with what he saw.
“I think the hard work put in during pre-season was vital and I just want to take the momentum into the next game against Mursley.
“A big well done to the team for the result.”
Assistant manager Roni Joe added: “I’ve got a lot of time for football like that it was a very good performance from the whole squad.”
Hale Leys travel to Mursley for their second game of the season next Saturday (3pm kick-off). All match day info will be displayed on the boards in the shopping centre.
