Stacey Field’s ninth goal of the season set Aylesbury United on their way to a 2-0 win over Hanwell Town on Wednesday night.
A comfortable performance throughout, Field showed he was not suffering from ‘second season syndrome’ as the 24 year old slipped the offside trap to coolly slot home his eighth league goal in nine games.
United rarely looked troubled throughout and were unlucky to head into the break goalless.
However after Field’s opener, the recalled John Mulholland capped an imperious performance at the back with a powerful header from Paul Edgeworth’s corner.
It was the Ducks’ second win on the bounce and sees them move up to second in the Spartans South Midlands Premier League.
But, they will be keeping an eye on how their rivals fare, having played one, and in some cases two more games than rivals.
United travel to mid-table Leverstock Green tomorrow hoping to continue their march to the top of the league (kick-off 3pm).
The trip marks the first of three away games on the spin for Tony Joyce’s side.
Meanwhile, Aylesbury FC travel to Beaconsfield in the league on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Craig Faulconbridge’s men are still looking for their first win in the league but hopes are high after two encouraging draws against Royston and Leighton Town.
