FC boss laments club’s winter of discontent as rain continues to be a pain

Aylesbury FC boss Craig Faulconbridge says it is proving impossible to build any kind of consistency after yet another match was rained off on Saturday.

The club are facing future fixture headaches after yet another match was postponed due to the heavy rain when the home game against Burnham was the latest to bite the dust.

It means Craig Faulconbridge’s men have not played a league game since the 2-1 away win over Thatcham on December 8.

Speaking ahead of the proposed trip to Leighton Town on New Year’s Day – where Aylesbury United play their home games and had their own match against Berkhamsted called off on Saturday – Faulconbridge conceded there was nothing the club could do about it.

“It’s been a recurring nightmare,” he said.

“To get the team playing well and with any consistency is virtually impossible.

“We seem to do something very well and then have a break.”

FC also train at their Affinity Stadium home, which is on a flood plain, and so have had limited pratice time as well.

The squad did however go back to school this week when they utilised the facilities at The Grange School.

Faulconbridge said: “It was good to get some training in but I hope some lessons will be learnt from this season at the league. More games need to be played when the weather is dry at the beginning of the season and they need to be sympathetic to clubs like us, where we are sat on a flood plain. It will only change if it’s a number of people or clubs saying it, though, and not just me.”

Off the pitch, FC could be close to bringing back striker Jonathan Constant from his short spell at Hitchin.

Faulconbridge confirmed talks are ongoing and hopes something will happen in the next week. The Moles are due to play Northwood at home on Saturday and Daventry away next Tuesday night.
