Aylesbury United are into the semi-finals of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup after pulling off an upset to dump Premier Division Burnham out 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Key player Richard Armstrong was the hero, his last minute header sending the underdogs through.
In something of an uninspiring match, it had long seemed destined for extra time as neither side showed the necessary quality in the final third to break the deadlock.
The Ducks often outbattled their more illustrious opponents – Champions of the Central Division last season and managed by former Ducks boss Martin Stone – and it was an excellent performance overall, particularly in keeping a clean sheet against a quality Burnham frontline.
A goalless draw looked the most likely outcome until Joey Acheampong won an 89th minute free-kick, which Liam Smyth delivered and Richard Armstrong met with a thumping header which decided the tie. Aylesbury could now meet old rivals Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-final, or fellow Calor League sides Beaconsfield SYCOB, Chesham United, Slough Town or Marlow – all of whom still remain in the competition.
United travel to Egham Town on Saturday.
