Brazilliant Boyce hits another wonder goal in rout
Emmerson Boyce celebrates his goal
Aylesbury-born Premier League footballer Emmerson Boyce scored one of the goals of the month as he inspired Wigan to a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Former Quarrendon School pupil Boyce, a defender by trade, is making a habit of scoring brilliant individual goals.
And he was at it again at Villa Park with a performance on a par with the likes of Brazilian Dani Alves, who plays in the same position when featuring for the mighty Barcelona.
First Boyce cut in from the right wing back position he has made his own before ghosting past three players, exchanging passes on the edge of the box and curling a cultured finish home with the expert precision of a 20-goal a season striker.
Boyce, whose cousin Matt Phillips – also from Aylesbury – could be set for a January move back to the Premier League, was also singled out for praise on Saturday night’s Match of the Day programme.
Pundit and Arsenal legend Martin Keown said: “This guy played centre back last week and look at him go, it’s a position (right wing back) he is really making his own. And he finishes like a seasoned striker, a quite brilliant goal.”
It was a mixed week for Boyce, though, as he was involved in an error which led to one of Manchester United’s goals in a 4-0 rout at the DW Stadium on New Year’s Day. As Boyce went to clear the ball teammate Jean Beausejour inadvertently barged into him allowing Danny Wellbeck in to set up Robin Van Persie for his second of the game.
